Go to Jaywick and the people who live there will talk to you, mainly because they can't write.

The latest rioting tonight in Calais followed the migrants being told Jaywick was their future home.

Apart from the fact that it's in line to be returned to the sea as part of the coastal management program? Nothing going for ti.

I did have many happy times there in the 60s though as it was the then Oxsaw family's choice for a summer holiday.

We moved on in succession to Margate, Birchington and Cromer as Papa Oxsaw earned more and more, but things were not the same.

Remember flying a plastic, home made Skull & Crossbones "We support Pirate Radio" kite with an elder brother from a beach which must have been Jaywick in what must have been 1967.

Might have been Margate though. Hold On. Uncle Alzhiemer is calling me on line 2, or is it 1. Hello? Who is it again? Sorry, He's not here. Will somebody please answer that fucking phone...

Re: Jaywick, Essex
Ted, when did you last go to Jaywick?

I popped down there in the summer and it is an untidy mish mash of holiday homes on the way to the main strip called Broadway, and then that is just full of derelict buildings, boarded windows, unkept gardens..... and then you reach Brooklands which is that but ten times worse.

I grew up on the edges of it, by the Frobisher School and it is a far cry from the 70's and 80's when it was vibrant, full of holiday makers, amusement arcades and flashing lights and live entertainment. Those days I would not swap with anyone's childhood.... now, forget it. Bulldoze it and start again.

Looks like the place Borat pretended was his village in that film.
